Paint by numbers has made a remarkable comeback in recent years and I must confess that I have now enjoyed 3 of them. This accessible art form allows anyone (even me)—regardless of artistic background—to create stunning artwork without formal training or experience.
Whether you’re a complete beginner seeking a creative outlet or an experienced artist looking for therapeutic relaxation, paint by numbers kits offer the perfect solution. To me, the beauty of this hobby lies in its simplicity: follow the numbered sections, apply the corresponding colors, and watch as a beautiful masterpiece emerges before your eyes.
The therapeutic benefits of paint by numbers extend beyond just creating art. I find it to be a calming activity that helps me unwind from daily stress. It is so relaxing to do.
I am going to share with you all about my experience of my first Davincified Painting by Numbers kit.
This is a completely unbiased review and I am not being paid to write it. The only connection between myself and Davincified is that I am an affiliate so if you click on the links in this review and buy the product I will earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Criteria for Review
The key things that I am looking at when I undertake this review are:
- How much I enjoyed it
- How easy it was to frame
- Variety of kits available
- Cost and value
- Number of colours
- Quality of items in kit
- How happy I was with the result
What I received in my Painting by Numbers kit
When my kit arrived I was ridiculously excited. Am I the only person who gets ridiculously excited whenever any craft supplies arrive? It was well packaged and everything was in good condition. I got the ‘Blue Poppies with Orange Centers – Paint by Numbers Kit‘.

When ordering on Davincified there are lots of options which I will go into further down but everything I ordered came and the canvas was well protected in a plastic tube.

Davincified – the website
Davincified offers many different images to paint with lots of different options but don’t feel overwhelmed. If you have no idea what you want, spend a pleasant afternoon browsing but if you know what you want the site is split into sections and it has a search function.
Once you find your favourite art work then you have more options. You can select a rolled canvas or a stretched canvas. I chose a stretched canvas and to assemble it at home. There is an option to buy it fully assembled and ready to hang but I have never done that.
Then you can select your colour palette. You have the option of 24 colours, 36 colours, 48 colours or painted for you with 24 colours. Obviously the more colours you choose the harder it will be and the longer it will take. However the result will be stunning! Plus, you are painting this to relax so taking a long time is not a problem, right? I chose 24 colours and it still took me a long time!
There are then other options and I did get the professional paintbrushes. I will talk more about those later but the kit does come with a set of 3 different brushes anyway.
Overall the website is easy to navigate and has a massive range of options to suit everyone.
Also, delivery was really quick.
Doing the Painting
I am not a professional so I do not have an easel but I always tape my canvas down onto a large piece of foamboard. This keeps it flat and prevents it from getting damaged. Plus, I can easily move it to a suitable storage spot when I am not working on it. This one has actually been in a few different rooms!
Then, I always work from the top left corner down to the bottom right. This prevents me from smudging my work as I am right handed. I also tend to paint light areas first and then paint darker colours up to them. Although, sometimes, I forget this completely!

I have an article that covers how to keep your canvas clean during painting so check that out for more tips.
Basically, painting by numbers is a time to relax and follow the instructions. The paint pots are clearly labelled to match the numbers on the canvas. There is a printed sheet to match the canvas so that you can check the numbers on there too.
I regularly used the magnifier on my phone to look at the numbers and check that I was using the right colours. There is also a picture of the completed artwork for you to refer to.
Extra Equipment
I chose to have the professional painting brushes too and I loved them. They come in a handy storage pouch and they separate in the middle so that the brush is stored safely inside the handle.
They proved to be good quality and really made the whole process even more enjoyable. There were six different sizes and they were great for different sized areas. I must confess that I used size 2 the most – it seemed to work pretty much everywhere.

My Overall Thoughts
I have loved doing this painting and it came at a difficult time in my life. It was a great escape from my mother’s end of life care and subsequent death. I could focus on the painting and feel positive as it developed.
I started recording how long it was taking me but I completely forgot along the way. It took many hours but I am probably not the quickest painter!
Now, I love having it on my wall and I am proud that I painted it. I am not a natural artist so a Davincified painting by numbers kit allows me to achieve a beautiful result with my very limited skills. You can do this too!
I would definitely recommend you take a look at Davincified and see what inspires you. Do not be put off if you are not an artist – it doesn’t matter.

Hints & Tips
These are my hints and tips for getting the most out of your painting by numbers experience:
- Paint in a well-lit area with a flat surface so you can relax.
- Your paints arrive in numerical order so keep them that way and keep brushes, water, and paper towels within easy reach. This organization prevents mistakes.
- Begin at the top of your canvas and work downward to avoid smudging wet paint with your hand or arm
- Apply paint in smooth, thin layers rather than thick globs. Multiple thin coats provide better coverage and a more professional finish than one thick application. (I must admit that sometimes I am guilty of a thick coat)
- If paint becomes too thick, add a tiny drop of water. If it’s too thin, leave the lid off briefly to let it thicken slightly.
- Take your time with edges and boundaries. You are here to enjoy the experience so don’t rush!
- Match brush size to section size—fine brushes for tiny areas, larger brushes for broad sections. The professional set was so useful for this.
- Rinse brushes thoroughly when switching colours to prevent muddying. Dry brushes on paper towels before dipping into new paint.
- Once dry, examine your work and add touch-ups to any areas that need additional coverage. (I did some of this)
- Let your painting dry completely (usually 24-48 hours) before handling or framing.
