Do you love to dress your home for autumn (or fall) without breaking the bank or looking too cheap? If so, then you are in the right place. Take your old book and turn it into a super cute book page garland to hang anywhere in your home. This is so simple you could even involve the kids.
I used artificial autumn leaves but you can use real ones or pressed real ones but we will talk about that later. So, let’s gather our supplies and make our autumn leaf garland.

Prepare the Book Pages
The size of your garland is entirely up to you (and the size of book you chose). I used a standard paperback and cut my pages down to 7″ tall by 4″ wide. But this was purely because I cut off the part of the page that had no writing on it. Choose your own size. The page will be folded in half so it will be half as tall as you cut it – mine are 3.5″ tall.
Decide how long you want your garland and prepare as many pages as you think you need. You can have them as far apart as you like. Mine are approximately 2.5″ apart.
Take each page and fold it in half (top to bottom). Then decide if you want a point or an inverted point at the bottom of each page. As you can see, I did both and alternated them but you could just do one or the other. In fact, you could cut any shape you like.

For the pointed page I measured the centre along the open edge and then 1″ up each side. I cut between the marks and formed the point. For the inverted point I measured 1″ up from the open edge in the centre. Then I cut from the bottom corners to that point.
Add the Leaves
Now get creative and add your leaves. I have simply glued one into the centre of each folded page. Of course, you could add several or build up a design using paint, stickers, washi tape, etc. I used artificial leaves but this would be a great project for pressed leaves. If you don’t want to keep it you could even use fresh leaves.
Add your chosen leaves in your chosen designs to all your pages.

Assemble your Garland
Cut your chosen twine, string or ribbon to the required length. NOTE: Make sure you have some spare to fasten it up wherever it is going. You can always cut off any excess later.
In turn take each book page that you have prepared, open it up and glue inside the page. Place it on the twine so that the twine sits in the fold at the point along its length that you want it. Fold the page closed around the twine and press it firmly in place.
Measure how far you want them apart and stick to that. Or simply, position them by eye. Once you have them all in place you have completed your garland. Simply hang it in place and enjoy it.
I placed mine on the mantelpiece but I will be removing it before it gets cold enough to light the stove.

More Autumn Craft Ideas
If you are doing your autumn decor how about making an autumn leaf bowl using your artificial autumn leaves. As you can see it is really pretty and brings those autumn colours indoors.

How about trying needlefelting? If you have never tried it then these needlefelted acorns are a great place to start small. Equally, if you have tried it before these are a great way to use up your scraps of coloured wool.
