Create your Snowflake Ornaments

Place your fabric (or similar) onto your table and tip some of your beads out. You will need some seed beads to spread out your main beads and you will need to sort your main beads ready for your pattern. Think about your pattern and then you can try it out on one ‘spoke’ of your snowflake.

I like either getting smaller towards the centre or getting larger towards the centre but you can choose your own design. I also tend to stick to one colour but you can include as many different colours as you like.

Once you have chosen your design, thread the beads onto one spoke. It is much easier to leave the beads on the table and poke the snowflake through them than try to pick the beads up and feed them onto the spoke. You will quickly get into a rhythm with this.

Leave approximately 3/8″ at the end of the spoke with no beads on it.

If you have round-nosed pliers they are the best tool to use next. If not, slim pliers will also work. You need to turn the end of the spoke over to form a circle. This will hold the beads in place.

I usually use round nosed pliers to form the circle and then ordinary pliers to close the circle up fully.

Repeat for all the spokes. You can do the same pattern on them all or you could vary it. I really do recommend experimenting!

Add your Hanger

The easiest way to hang these decoration on your tree is using a paperclip. Simply open up the paperclip to form an S-shape.

Then, thread it through the loop on one end of a spoke. Use your pliers to close up the end of the paperclip that is through the loop to stop it coming off again.

Congratulations, you have made your first beaded snowflake Christmas ornament. I am sure it will not be the last!
