Transform a Simple Paperclip into a Beautiful Angel

If you are anything like me you have accumulated hundreds of paperclips and never use them. Well, why not turn them into gorgeous paperclip angels? A humble paperclip and a bead can make a cute DIY angel ornament in minutes.

They look fabulous hanging from your Christmas tree or added to a parcel to embellish the wrapping. But they can also be used as a paperclip necklace pendant or even paperclip earrings!

So, if you are looking for paperclip crafts then look no further than these adorable paperclip angels.

Let’s get started!

You will need:

Bend your Paperclip

The first step is to straighten out your paperclip. Now, do not worry too much about this. You do not need it perfectly straight – no-one will ever notice. This is what mine looked like!

Locate the centre of your wire and place your finger on it. I used my forefinger but it all depends on the size of your finger! Bend the wire around your finger to form a triangle such that the ends overlap a long way. The bottom of my triangle is about 5/8″ long. Obviously if you are using a larger paperclip then this measurement will be longer.

Then bend the ends of the wire back down into the edge of the triangle to form the wings of the angel. These are both in front of the triangle but to be honest it does not matter.

Complete the Paperclip Angel

Your angel just needs a head and a hanging ribbon now. We will do this in one step. It is up to you how long you cut your ribbon but as a guide I use 6″ for charms and 8″ for Christmas tree decorations.

Fold your ribbon in half. Pass the folded end through the triangle and wrap it around the triangle between the 2 wings. Then feed the ends of the ribbon through the loop and pull tight. This will secure it to the angel.

Now feed the two ends of the ribbon through your bead (I tend to thread mine onto a wide eyed needle to make it easier). Then you can knot the ribbon close to the ribbon to keep it in place or not bother. It is up to you. I have done both and to be honest I prefer them knotted to keep the bead in place but I think they look better without!.

Then tie a knot at the ends of the ribbon and you are finished. You can use it however you like. They are great to gift to friends as their guardian angel – perhaps in a cute little gift box made from a match box or similar.
