I Tried a Monthly Craft Subscription So You Don’t Have To!

I must confess that I like the idea of monthly craft subscription boxes so I was delighted when Kirsty of Stitch Kit approached me to review hers. I will tell you all about it here but you will be amazed at the individuality of the boxes. You complete a questionnaire and get a box selected for you.
So, let’s see what I got and share all about this monthly subscription.
Full disclosure – I was gifted this kit but I have no vested interest in you purchasing a kit so these are my honest opinions.
Why a Craft Subscription Box?
We all know that there’s something deeply satisfying about creating with your hands. Whether you’re a serial hobbyist looking to explore new techniques or a dedicated crafter seeking quality materials delivered to your door, craft subscription boxes offer a unique solution to the age-old question: “What should I make next?”
For many crafters, these curated boxes provide:
- Discovery of new techniques you might never have tried on your own
- High-quality materials from small, artisan suppliers you wouldn’t find in big-box stores
- Structured learning experiences with expert instruction
- A creative outlet that fits into busy schedules
Personally, I think the main benefit is the opportunity to try new crafts without investing too much in something that I may not even like.

They offer six different crafts:
- Sewing & Patchwork
- Knitting

- Amigurumi
- Macramé
- Embroidery & Cross Stitch
Stitch Kit Pricing
Cost Range: £25-£65 per box, depending on your level
They have 3 levels in most areas – Starter, Signature and Masterpiece
You have the option to purchase one box from any range or sign up to the monthly subscription. In either case, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to decide upon the best craft box to suit your preferences.
In this review, I have the starter box for macrame, priced at £25.
What is included in my box?
Let me start by saying the box and the contents are of excellent quality. I was so excited to see the quality and what was included.
Here is a list of what was included and a picture for you to judge for yourself:
- Cord for the macrame
- 2 rings
- 2 hangers
- tape measure
- scissors
- instructions
- 2 different pots for the 2 different hangers
- bonus sweets and thank you card
- All wrapped beautifully!

How I got on with my Kit
I received my kit and it all felt excellent quality and I was really excited to get started. As a complete beginner with macrame I knew this would be a challenge. I was not wrong!
The instructions have everything you need in them but, to be honest, I felt that I needed a little more guidance. I am happy to accept that maybe I am just not made to do macrame but I found it hard to follow the instructions and diagrams at first. Everything is there, but I did need a little YouTube research to help me.

The kit makes 2 plant hangers and I must confess that I did not enjoy making the first one. I also did not get the best result! But, as I relaxed into the second one I found my rhythm and enjoyed it. Plus, I got a much better result.
I think that my difficulties were mine and not down to the kit. The cord was excellent quality, as were the scissors. I was very surprised to find the scissors and plant pots included – a lovely bonus!
I think this kit did exactly what you want a craft kit to do. It introduced me to the craft of macrame with 2 projects that were achievable by an absolute beginner. It included everything so no extra purchases needed. If I love it, I can then go on and purchase more supplies. If not, I have discovered that without ending up with a drawer full of supplies that I will never use again.

Why Stitch Kit?
I think that my craft kit was great and there are some aspects of Stitch Kit that I really want to draw your attention to. Stitch Kit is a small company run by Kirsty in the UK. It really focuses on personalisation and making sure that you will like your craft kit.
After you purchase a kit or subscription you will complete a questionnaire and it really does make you think about what you want with such questions as , who do you craft for?’. Only then is a kit selected for you from their comprehensive range.
Despite being called Stitch Kit they cover such crafts as needle felting and macrame. The main focus is on yarn crafts such as crochet and knitting, and sewing such as embroidery and patchwork. There are some beautiful boxes and I love that the range is from starter to masterpiece to suit all budgets.

In Conclusion
If you are looking for a way to try new crafts or receive monthly inspiration for a craft you already love then I think Stitch Kit could really help you. Who wouldn’t like to receive a fabulous gift box every month with a complete project (or 2) to undertake?
Macrame is not for me (and I know that now). However, I love the second plant holder that I made and I am really glad I had a go. I got a fabulous feeling of satisfaction when I completed it and I loved the result!
So, I suggest that if you are in the UK you check them out and get inspired yourself!
