0:00
hi in this video i'm going to show you
0:02
how to make a super easy pin cushion
0:03
that sharpens your pins
0:05
you can use any container you've already
0:07
got super easy to make
0:09
so let's get started i'm christine of
0:12
christinescroft.com and this channel is
0:14
dedicated to crafting on a budget
0:16
so what are you going to need to make
0:20
you're going to need a good pair of
0:26
a glue gun use a hot melt glue gun so it
0:30
and obviously a little glue stick
0:33
you're going to need a needle and thread
0:35
which is my needle book which you can
0:37
see how to make on another of my videos
0:39
listed below in the description
0:42
you're going to need a little container
0:43
now i'm using a tiny container out of a
0:47
but whatever size your container is
0:50
something else that's a good two to
0:54
three times the diameter
0:55
that you're going to use as a template
0:57
to cut round for your fabric
1:01
okay so remember the small pots your
1:02
container for your pincushion
1:04
the other ones just to draw around the
1:06
magic ingredient for making them
1:09
sharpen your pins is steel wool so you
1:12
want some nice fine steel wool
1:14
some wadding or toy filling
1:17
stuffing whatever you want to call it
1:20
and some fabric a nice cotton
1:22
is ideal and that's all you need
1:26
so the first thing you're going to do is
1:29
and cut out the circle to form your pin
1:33
so whatever you're using for your
1:34
template place it onto your fabric
1:38
and draw around it obviously you want it
1:41
as close to the edge as you can so that
1:42
you waste as little as possible
1:47
i use a sharpie so that it shows up well
1:51
you can use whatever you like probably
1:53
something that doesn't make quite such a
1:56
it really doesn't matter because in this
1:58
project you'll never see this edge it'll
2:02
and out of sight so just cut carefully
2:09
and you'll have that nice circle to make
2:18
because you don't need a lot of fabric
2:20
this is great for using up fabric scraps
2:22
you may have laying around
2:24
and you can make lots of different ones
2:28
all different fabric scraps for
2:32
so once you've got your circle cut out
2:34
you need to get a needle and thread
2:37
i've used a double of thread because i
2:40
don't want it to snap
2:42
put a knot in one end and then start
2:45
working your way around the edge of the
2:48
you're just going to run a little
2:51
so that you can pull it up at the end so
2:54
just keep working your way
2:55
all the way around make sure you've got
2:59
a good knot on the end of your thread so
3:01
that you don't pull it through
3:04
because that's really annoying having
3:09
make sure your stitches are not too big
3:13
but again no one's going to see this so
3:16
the size of them and whether they're all
3:17
exactly the same isn't that important
3:20
so you can see as they're so round it's
3:23
and starting to form our little
3:27
shape that we're going to need
3:32
once you get all the way around pull it
3:38
but not all the way because you need to
3:41
in there you can see it's just forming
3:44
that nice shape and you can see
3:45
approximately the size
3:47
that your pin cushion is going to be so
3:50
that allows you to prepare your filling
3:53
yep you can see what it's going to be
3:55
like so the first thing to do is to get
3:58
and cut a small amount of it to form the
4:01
center of your pin cushion
4:03
so remember when you're thinking about
4:04
the size you're going to put it inside
4:07
the shape you've already made and you're
4:09
going to put some wadding
4:10
or toy filling around it so not too
4:18
and then you can just press that up nice
4:20
little ball you can see that's going to
4:23
check it fits okay and the space around
4:27
and then cut yourself a piece of wadding
4:32
your steel wool it's just going to give
4:36
edge to your pin cushion you can see
4:39
i've used this for other projects i'm
4:41
just going to cut a strip
4:44
and wrap my steel wool in it
4:50
take your steel wool press it into your
4:53
and keep wrapping it around to form the
4:57
and you can do this as many times as you
4:58
need to to get the shape you're looking
5:00
for you could even trim up the wadding
5:03
and then place it inside the fabric
5:07
and use your thread to pull it up tight
5:12
and again you can keep adjusting it you
5:14
can keep doing this until you're happy
5:16
with the shape that you form
5:18
you can tweak it you can push it you can
5:20
take it out and have another go if
5:23
but once you are happy with your shape
5:28
pull it up really tight make sure it
5:33
and then form a knot to fasten off you
5:36
need to fasten your thread off
5:38
so i recommend doing at least two or
5:42
and then poking your needle into the
5:45
so that it doesn't come undone
5:50
if you're looking at this in horror
5:52
remember this side will not be seen
5:55
it's going to be glued into your
6:00
so that's it you've got a super little
6:03
adjust it make sure you're happy with it
6:08
and try it for size in your pot now i've
6:11
got a nice big top on a little pot
6:13
you can make yours however you like so
6:17
is to hot melt glue the two together so
6:21
plenty of hot melt glue around the top
6:25
of your container and then you can add
6:28
some in the bottom you can put it up the
6:30
sides but the important thing is to make
6:32
sure you've some round the top
6:35
and then quickly before it sets press
6:40
your pin cushion in just hold it there
6:44
press it in firmly make sure it glues
6:49
and there you go you've got a pin
6:53
that will sharpen your pins
6:56
so remember you can make these in lots
6:58
of different containers so there's the
6:59
small one i've just made ideal to go in
7:03
i have a larger one i've made in a
7:08
and i also have one in a teacup which i
7:10
have to confess is currently my favorite
7:13
um i love having my teacup on the side
7:16
and then i can just get my pins in and
7:19
so i hope you've enjoyed watching this
7:20
video and good luck making your own
7:23
pin cushions in whatever containers
