0:00
hi in this video i'm going to show you
0:02
how to make this cute autumn bowl out of
0:04
fake autumn leaves whether you call it
0:08
we all enjoy this season
0:11
so if you want to know how to make your
0:12
own autumn bowl of these inexpensive
0:15
fake leaves then stay watching i'm going
0:18
to show you different ways to get
0:19
whatever effect you're after i'm
0:21
christine of christine's crafts and this
0:23
channel is dedicated to crafting on a
0:26
you can get these leaves from all over
0:28
the place but you can certainly get them
0:29
online now as you can see i got mine
0:31
locally for a pound here in the united
0:36
and that's really the basis of your bowl
0:39
you're also going to need some pva glue
0:41
this is a decker patch one but modge
0:43
podge or any other pva glue will work
0:45
just as well and a brush to put your
0:50
you're also going to need some sort of
0:51
bowl so select your bowl to be the size
0:53
and shape of the autumn bowl that you
0:55
want to end up with because this is
0:57
basically what you're going to build it
0:59
and you're also going to need some cling
1:02
film some plastic sheet that you can
1:04
just wrap over your bowl to hold it all
1:07
in place while you're working
1:10
so there are two different ways of going
1:12
about this now the first way is to take
1:16
and to cover it in some of the cling
1:19
this will make sure that you don't glue
1:21
your leaves to the bowl and make them
1:24
really hard to get off so just take the
1:28
and put a single covering over your bowl
1:31
and just smooth it down so it's how you
1:34
you'll notice i placed my bowl onto a
1:36
ramekin dish just to raise it up so that
1:38
i didn't glue it to the table
1:41
when i get all my glue going
1:44
another method here is to simply take
1:47
your bowl like i did here and apply some
1:50
sort of grease or oil to the bowl
1:52
so that the glue will not stick to it
1:55
now this is not my preferred method
1:58
but it works just as well you tend to
2:00
end up with a bowl that is a little more
2:02
loose the leaves do not sit down so
2:06
but it works it's entirely up to you
2:10
so if we go back to the cling film one
2:11
what i'm going to show you from now on
2:13
is the way you do it whichever method
2:15
you're using whether you've greased your
2:16
bowl or covered it in cling film
2:19
you're still going to take your glue
2:28
to the front of your leaf
2:31
you see making sure there's a good
2:35
worry about getting it onto the cling
2:37
film on the bowl because that is going
2:38
to get covered anyway
2:42
and then turn your leaf over
2:44
and cover the back of it with your glue
2:49
and that's it that's the base of your
2:55
and then you'll not be surprised to
2:57
that the next thing you're going to do
3:02
and repeat the process
3:04
so you'll see that i start to put some
3:06
glue onto the cling film
3:08
so that i can glue the leaf down you can
3:10
apply it to the leaf you can apply it to
3:14
i recommend applying plenty of glue to
3:16
both to be honest and make sure that
3:18
you're doing like i am here overlapping
3:20
the leaves if you don't overlap them
3:23
sufficiently you'll just end up with
3:24
holes in your bowl and depending if what
3:26
you're using it for if it's just a
3:27
little decoration that probably won't
3:30
and if you want your bowl to be quite
3:31
sturdy you're probably going to want
3:33
more than one layer of leaves
3:37
but i'm overlapping them quite a bit
3:40
and i'm making sure i've got the surface
3:44
top of the bowl so i'm turning the
3:46
leaves so that they're all pointing
3:48
upwards when the bowl's the right way up
3:51
once you're happy with how thick it is
3:54
and the effect you've got
3:57
that it's time to hold it all in place
3:59
so we're back to our trusty cling film
4:02
i'm going to need another piece
4:04
to place over the bowl
4:08
the reason i did this is to hold the
4:10
leaves down because you'll find that
4:11
when you're gluing them they tend to
4:14
stick up and return to the shape they
4:17
so just place your cling film over and
4:20
smooth it down now be careful you don't
4:22
want to move your leaves you don't want
4:24
to make holes in your bowl
4:26
so you'll see i just keep patting it
4:28
pressing it and i'm just really looking
4:30
for the bits that are sticking up
4:32
and securing them down
4:37
so make sure you're happy that it's
4:39
smooth down to give the surface and the
4:41
finish that you want when your bowl is
4:47
and then i'm going to talk you through
4:50
to get this so that it will actually dry
4:54
peel your cling film back a little bit
4:56
just to reveal the edges of your bowl
5:00
and then they will start to dry
5:05
if you take all your cling film off or
5:06
you don't cling film it it'll really
5:08
struggle to hold the bowl together
5:10
so what i've found is the best thing to
5:14
is to keep coming back
5:16
and peeling a bit more up and then it
5:18
will dry a lot quicker
5:20
i assume if you just leave it on it'll
5:22
dry eventually but i haven't tried
5:24
i tend to just keep coming back and as
5:27
you can see if a little bit when you
5:29
peel it up the leaf just pops up
5:31
just put your cling film back down for a
5:34
but you can see what's happening is
5:36
there's a smaller and smaller area
5:38
covered with the cling film
5:42
so i'm still holding that cling film on
5:47
if that's dried enough to hold flat
5:52
take off the cling film and just leave
5:56
and i recommend leaving it overnight
5:57
making sure it's properly dry
6:00
once you're happy it is properly dry
6:01
it's time to take it off the bowl
6:06
using a bowl that you've just greased
6:09
you're just gonna have to prise it off
6:10
and i do suggest you make sure it's
6:12
really dry because it feels quite brutal
6:15
if you're using the cling film you'll
6:16
see that i'm able to price it off
6:20
because the cling film is coming off
6:28
just work your way around take your
6:37
and that's it you've got a bowl
6:40
usually unless you've left it a very
6:42
long time that there's still some wet
6:44
glue against that cling film so if there
6:46
is i recommend that you leave it to dry
6:50
and then once you're happy it's all dry
6:53
it's up to you what you do with the
6:55
cling film one technique is to rip it
6:57
off so that it's only on the inside of
7:01
and if you find that's a little bit
7:03
you can simply cut it off so it just
7:06
covers the inside of the bowl
7:08
or my preferred option is to make sure
7:10
everything's completely dry and then
7:12
remove the cling film altogether you
7:14
just peel it off and it feels quite
7:16
brutal and you worry about your bowl but
7:19
in my experience your bowl survives just
7:22
and there you go you've got your bowl
7:23
complete so then you can decorate it you
7:27
fake felt leaves to pop in there like
7:29
these if you want to see the link for
7:31
how i made those that's down below the
7:33
video or you could simply go out and
7:35
collect some nice autumn goodies like
7:37
these acorns and place those in your
7:39
bowl or how about just the bowl on its
7:42
so thank you for watching i hope you've
7:44
enjoyed it please give me a thumbs up
