Hi, I'm Christine of Christine's Crafts and today we're going to make some drop earrings
0:08
It's really easy and I think you're going to enjoy it. These are the earrings we're going to make
0:14
You're going to need some beads and some little jewellery pins. Note they've got a bit on the end to stop your beads sliding off
0:22
A couple of earring hooks which I'm sure you're familiar with. OK, just two of those
0:29
You're also going to need some pliers. They don't have to be specifically jewellery ones, but if they're too big it's a little bit awkward
0:37
So a pair of pliers and also some round-nosed pliers. These you may not have, but you may need to buy
0:48
But they don't have to be jewellery specific, just a small rounded end
0:52
OK, so we're going to take our pins and our beads first of all and think about the design of your earrings
1:01
Collect your beads together and as you'll see I'm not using a hard surface
1:05
I've got a bit of fabric down to stop them rolling away
1:09
Take one of your pins and start your design. Just slide your beads on right to the end
1:17
They shouldn't slide off because of the end on the pin. If they do, your beads are too large
1:22
OK, so the ones that you're sliding on first are going to be the bottom of the earring
1:29
So think about that when you're designing it and sliding them on
1:33
Just keep sliding them on until you get near the top. OK, you can't fill the whole pin
1:41
Now I'm looking at my design thinking it needs a bit more blue
1:45
So I'll take the top one off, put a little blue one on eventually and then put my top bead on
1:56
But hang on, I've not left enough at the top to form a loop. So I'm going to take that off again and go back to a shorter design
2:04
So put it on the table, you'll realise I've left quite a bit at the top to form a loop
2:09
I'm now going to just repeat that so I've got an identical earring
2:14
You don't have to do that. You can have two very different earrings if that's what you like
2:19
But mine are going to be identical. So I'll keep referring to the one that's on the table and make sure they're both exactly the same
2:28
I do this before I build any earrings just to make sure I can complete a pair and that they are the same
2:37
So I've changed my plans, a couple of leftover beads. Just get rid of those
2:44
So now we've got the drops, we're going to need the earring hooks
2:48
And we're going to have to attach those to the drops. Take your round-ended pliers, take one of your drops and wrap the wire around one of the rounded ends just like that
3:02
And that's going to form a loop. Now make sure you have a good loop but don't let it close up because that's what you're going to attach your hook to
3:11
On the bottom of your hook is a little ring. Try and get that onto the hoop you've just made
3:17
It can be a little bit tricky. Just persevere. You'll get there
3:22
Once you've got it into the loop, we're going to have to close that loop up so it doesn't fall out again
3:30
And that's where your pliers are going to come in. You can use your pliers to just close the last bit of that loop up
3:41
Once it's closed, your earring is finished. OK, and there we go
3:49
Now you're just going to repeat that for the other one. So take your round-nosed pliers, wrap the top of the wire around them to form a loop
4:01
Make sure you've got a good strong loop if need be. Just do a little bit more wrapping around
4:07
You've left a gap, so hook your earring hook through there. Use your pliers, close that loop up
4:19
Now I've decided it's not quite round enough, the loop. So I'm going back in with the round-nosed pliers
4:26
That's a bit better. Let's close it up with the ordinary pliers now
4:32
And that's it. Well done. A fabulous pair of earrings. So I hope you've enjoyed making your earrings today
