0:02
hi and welcome to christines crafts.com
0:04
today I'm going to show you how to make
0:06
a folded book Christmas tree really
0:09
simple but really effective all you need
0:12
is an old paperback so this is one I've
0:14
made and as you can see I've glued a
0:16
star on the top just to finish it off
0:19
really super simple that's half a
0:21
paperback book you're looking at there
0:25
folded so get yourself a paperback book
0:28
doesn't matter how big doesn't matter
0:30
how long the book is you'll see this
0:32
one's quite thick it's about 300 pages
0:36
so it's a little bit thick for making
0:37
the Christmas tree but it does have a
0:40
proper spine all the pages are glued
0:42
into the spine and that's what you're
0:43
looking for so that they stay attached
0:45
even when we take it to Pieces so I'm
0:48
going to divide my book in two and I can
0:50
get two trees out of it if I want to
0:52
perhaps put one on the either end of a
0:54
mantle piece either end of a long table
0:57
whatever you fancy so I've got a craft
1:00
knife and I'm just going to cut it in
1:02
half now you'll see me struggle with
1:04
this this craft knife we seen a lot of
1:06
action it's been involved in making a
1:08
lot of small plastic figurines which I'm
1:10
sure some of you know a lot about when
1:12
my boys were younger but I'll get there
1:15
and I'll get it cut in half because it's
1:18
purely half a book I'm going to use it's
1:23
Pages by that I mean 150 sides just to
1:30
okay so if I ever get this to two there
1:35
we go I'll just get rid of one half for
1:38
now so then we're left with the front
1:41
half of the book and I don't want the
1:44
cover on it so the first Sheet's pretty
1:47
boring so I'm going to cut that off as
1:50
well it's your choice you can cut and
1:52
remove as many pages as you like so long
1:54
as you've still got plenty to form your
1:56
tree I'm just going to cut it off
2:00
and then I'll be left purely with Pages
2:02
glued together as you can see that's cut
2:05
as well as it did when I was going down
2:07
the middle but it's going to come
2:08
straight off so let's not worry you can
2:11
see on that spine the way they're still
2:13
glued together and that's really
2:14
important so I'm just going to check
2:16
yeah nice and tightly fastened so now
2:20
folding going to take the top
2:23
Corner Bend it down to the spine getting
2:27
a nice sharp point at the top and making
2:30
sure it lines up perfectly with that
2:33
spine nice crisp fold always make sure
2:37
each fold is nice and crisp now where
2:39
we've folded it there I'm going to bring
2:42
that across again to the spine it's
2:45
worth taking the time to make sure you
2:47
get it properly across and a nice crisp
2:50
edge and a sharp point at the
2:53
top you can see the Christmas tree shape
2:56
coming but we still got a bit at the
2:58
bottom so what we're going to do is fold
3:01
that up and tuck it in so that the
3:04
folded page lines up with the bottom of
3:07
book and there you've got your first bit
3:10
of tree already formed so fold that page
3:14
over there to the other side you can see
3:17
I'm just making sure those folds are
3:20
crisp and then I'm going to do another
3:22
page to show you that all over
3:25
again so we take the top corner
3:32
spine make sure you get a good point at
3:35
the top and make sure it lines up
3:36
perfectly with the spine it's easy at
3:39
the moment but it gets harder as you go
3:42
book take that edge and fold it over to
3:45
the spine again still keeping that sharp
3:51
fold and then tuck the bottom up make
3:55
sure it lines up with the bottom of your
3:56
book don't worry if you fold it and it's
3:59
not quite right you see oh that's not
4:01
one's right let's just fold it again
4:03
there we go so that's two pages push
4:07
them over to that side and keep
4:10
going I'm going to show you a few more
4:12
pages but I've sped it up so it doesn't
4:15
get too boring so we're just going to go
4:17
through a few more and you can start to
4:19
see how it builds up you just keep going
4:23
and you'll start to get more and more on
4:25
the left hand side until it becomes
4:27
unmanageable so I'm going to show you
4:31
what happens when you come into the end
4:33
so here I've done all the pages but the
4:35
last two and you can see it's getting
4:39
tricky you still got to make sure you
4:41
get that point and that you get your
4:43
corner down right to the spine so I'm
4:47
just showing you these last two pages to
4:48
show you how tricky it really is don't
4:51
worry if you're finding it difficult it
4:53
is tricky still got to get that nice
4:57
crisp Edge and fold the bottom up
5:01
nicely and then you're going to get to
5:08
down nice point you can see I was making
5:11
sure I got the point first because
5:12
that's the trickiest bit there and then
5:22
spine you can see me struggling away
5:25
with this it's not easy lifted it up so
5:28
you can see I'm still making sure I get
5:31
spine fold the bottom
5:34
up and hey Presto we're all
5:38
finished so now when you stem that up
5:41
you pull those two pages together so
5:43
that it forms a tree all the way around
5:46
so the pages spread out a little bit you
5:49
can see I can put it down flat again at
5:50
the moment and then I can stand it back
5:55
together and that's it your Christmas
6:00
so as I said earlier I just stuck a star
6:03
on the top of mine that I made out of
6:04
another page of the book and I'm
6:06
finished you could spray paint it gold
6:09
if you fancied or silver or whatever to
6:11
match your Decor if you click on the
6:13
video that's showing now you can go over
6:15
to another video that shows you how to
6:17
make the star to go on the top so thank
6:20
you for watching I hope you've enjoyed
6:22
it and I hope you're going to make your
6:24
own uh folded book Christmas trees so
6:27
please take the time to give me a thumbs
6:29
up show me some support perhaps leave me
