hi and welcome to christinescrafts.com
0:03
today i'm going to show you how to make
0:04
this really simple christmas bauble that
0:06
can look
0:07
really effective so please remember to
0:09
subscribe to the channel so you can see
0:11
all my videos and leave me some comments
0:12
below and a thumbs up
0:14
assuming you like the video so without
0:17
any further ado let's get on to what
0:18
you're going to need to make this bauble
0:21
you're going to need a polystyrene ball
0:23
or a styrofoam ball
0:24
depending what you call it any size you
0:27
like depending what bauble size you want
0:30
you're also going to need some string so
0:32
you can mark up your bauble
0:34
and a pen or a pencil so that you can
0:37
mark it
0:38
you're also going to need some ribbon
0:40
it's going to cover some rough edges and
0:42
make your hanger
0:44
and you're going to need some knives
0:46
you're going to need a sharp knife be it
0:48
a craft knife or in my case a kitchen
0:50
knife
0:51
and some sort of blunt knife i'm going
0:52
to use the back of an ordinary table
0:54
knife
0:56
you're going to need some hot melt glue
0:57
to get that ribbon on
0:59
and you're going to need some fabric i'm
1:01
choosing to use two different fabrics
1:03
you could use all the same fabric four
1:06
different fabrics eight different
1:07
fabrics you'll see how creative you can
1:09
get as we move along
1:12
so let's start by marking up the bauble
1:15
you need to lay your string on the
1:16
bauble all the way around
1:19
and then draw along that string so
1:22
you're basically marking
1:23
halfway around your bauble turn your
1:26
ball
1:27
through 90 degrees and do the same again
1:30
so you'll find what you're doing is
1:31
splitting your ball up into quarters
1:34
four equal parts
1:37
and then we need to do is take those
1:40
marks and put the knife in
1:42
and do a small insertion all the way
1:45
along
1:47
so when i say small maybe a centimeter
1:50
and just work your way along you're
1:53
basically making a slot
1:55
all the way around your polystyrene ball
1:58
so once you get all the way around make
2:00
sure those join up
2:03
and if you're not happy with it you can
2:05
just go around again and make it a bit
2:06
deeper
2:07
make it a bit more easy to access
2:11
and then you're going to do the same
2:13
with the other one that you marked
2:15
so you really have split your bauble
2:17
into four quarters
2:19
now if you want you could do the same
2:21
process again
2:22
and split it into eighths eight equal
2:25
parts
2:26
just repeat the process you've just done
2:28
so that you split it again
2:30
but we're going to stay with quarters
2:33
so now we've got our ball all marked up
2:35
we're going to need some fabric
2:38
so once you've selected some fabric
2:40
you're going to mark it with the ball
2:42
just roll it like that so you can see
2:44
how long your piece of material needs to
2:46
be
2:47
and cut it you'll see throughout the
2:49
whole tutorial i have a lot of trouble
2:51
with that ball rolling away
2:52
not surprisingly so you're going to cut
2:56
it to length
2:57
so that you know it wraps from the top
2:59
to the bottom of your ball
3:00
easily with some left over and now we're
3:03
going to cut it so we have the right
3:05
width
3:06
so again don't be too too mean make sure
3:09
it reaches
3:10
and some you want some extra you don't
3:12
want to just barely cover a quarter
3:14
you want at least another two or three
3:16
inches so you've got some spare
3:20
and then that's the piece you're going
3:21
to use so we're going to start now
3:25
and we're going to fix that on to one
3:28
quarter of our bauble
3:30
so lay it on and you can see it covers
3:33
one quarter
3:34
and then you're going to get the knife
3:36
that is not sharp
3:37
and even then i'm going to use the back
3:39
of it because i don't want to cut the
3:40
fabric
3:42
and i'm basically just going to push the
3:45
fabric into the slot
3:47
now you'll see here i've started at the
3:49
top and i'm working my way around
3:51
i actually decided it was better to
3:53
start in the middle
3:55
and then work up and down which is what
3:57
i did with the other segments but you've
4:00
got to get it in there so that it
4:02
basically
4:02
holds it in place and do it down both
4:05
sides
4:06
so you're going to end up with the
4:07
fabric
4:10
sitting comfortably on the ball very
4:12
snugly
4:13
so it's just held in place as if it were
4:15
glued but please note there is no glue
4:17
in there
4:18
it's just being held in there because
4:20
you've pushed it into the slot and it's
4:21
being held by friction
4:24
and that'll be fine that's all it needs
4:26
and just hold it there
4:28
you can keep smoothing it you can fold
4:30
it you can make whatever effects you
4:32
want
4:33
just keep going and make sure it's
4:35
securely in there
4:38
once you're happy it's all secure you're
4:41
going to get your scissors
4:43
and you're going to trim off the excess
4:45
fabric
4:47
now if you watch you'll notice that i
4:48
don't get it completely trimmed off in
4:50
one go
4:52
it doesn't matter how many times you
4:54
have to trim it
4:55
just keep going back and keep trimming
4:58
if at any time your material starts to
5:00
come back out of the slot
5:02
just get your knife push it back in
5:05
you can just keep repeating that
5:07
trimming pushing it in
5:08
until you're happy with it and then
5:11
we've got to start thinking about the
5:12
next segment
5:14
so you'll see i've sped this up a lot
5:15
because all i'm doing is repeating the
5:17
process
5:18
so this time i'm going next to the one
5:20
i've already done
5:22
and i'm going to do the same thing again
5:24
you will find
5:25
that when you're trying to push it in
5:27
the slot that's already got fabric in
5:29
it's quite tricky so take time
5:33
don't worry about it it is difficult
5:35
when there's already fabric in there
5:37
don't be tempted to rush and damage your
5:39
polystyrene
5:40
if you're having a lot of trouble you
5:42
can always take the other bit of fabric
5:43
out and then put it back in
5:46
but once you've got that one smooth trim
5:48
that one off
5:51
and you can start to see how the
5:52
bauble's going to look
5:55
i can see i just keep trimming keep
5:57
trimming till i'm happy
6:00
pushing those in because i think they've
6:01
come out a little bit
6:03
and then i'm going to go again with the
6:04
third segment
6:07
exactly the same thing again i'm
6:09
starting in the middle of the segment
6:11
and working my way to either end
6:14
very tricky way you've already got
6:15
fabric in the slot but just keep going
6:19
you'll really start to feel how your
6:21
bauble's going to end up looking
6:24
it grows very quickly this craft
6:29
in real time this whole bauble probably
6:31
took me about half an hour
6:34
you'll see it's a lot quicker on here
6:36
when i can just speed the film up
6:38
so once you've got three segments done
6:41
obviously the final segment is the
6:43
hardest
6:45
all the slots are full of fabric already
6:48
so you've just got to keep pushing it in
6:51
i'm also going to point out that if
6:52
you've got a fabric with a right and the
6:54
wrong way up like i have with my uh
6:57
stags i think they are on there just
6:59
make sure you get them the same way up
7:02
on both pieces so you'll see i'm having
7:05
a lot of trouble here particularly the
7:07
top and the bottom
7:08
just because there's a lot of fabric in
7:09
there already but persevere
7:13
yeah it keeps wanting to jump out
7:16
and you'll have all four segments done
7:19
just go round
7:20
push any bits of fabric in tidy any bits
7:22
up trim them off as you need to
7:24
until you're happy with how it looks
7:27
remember that you
7:28
are going to cover these rough edges up
7:30
so don't worry too much they don't need
7:31
to be
7:32
absolutely perfect
7:39
so now it's time to add some ribbon so
7:42
starting at the top of your ball
7:44
add a bit of hot melt glue stick your
7:47
piece of ribbon on
7:48
so that it's ready to run down along one
7:51
of the joins between your pieces of
7:53
fabric
7:54
and you're just going to work your way
7:56
around add some glue stick the ribbon on
7:59
add some more glue stick some more of
8:01
the ribbon on
8:03
and keep working your way all the way
8:05
around
8:06
until you get back up to the top and
8:08
then just make sure you overlap your
8:10
ribbon
8:12
so that it's a complete loop and you'll
8:15
see that those rough edges
8:16
have disappeared
8:20
trim off your ribbon
8:26
and then do the same on the other way
8:30
at 90 degrees so yeah put
8:33
some glue on stick from the top again
8:36
just keep smoothing it down making sure
8:38
it's
8:39
it's lying nice and flat and you're
8:40
getting a good finish
8:42
you can use a wide ribbon for this it's
8:44
a lot easier to cover your
8:47
your ends up and your your raw edges but
8:49
i've used quite a fine ribbon and it's
8:51
worked absolutely fine
8:54
keep working round
8:59
till you get back to the top and once
9:01
again
9:02
cut it off so now you've got your bauble
9:04
all ready
9:05
it's just going to need a hanger
9:09
so cut yourself a piece of ribbon twice
9:12
as long as the length of the hanger you
9:14
want
9:15
and a little bit more to do a knot so
9:18
you'll see i'm just going to cut mine
9:19
off here
9:20
and now i'm going to knot the two ends
9:22
of my ribbon together
9:26
just a simple knot it's just so i've got
9:28
something nice and bulky
9:30
i think it glues better to the bauble
9:35
and then add some hot melt glue to the
9:38
top of the bauble
9:41
and push the knot of your ribbon into
9:44
the glue
9:48
and it's as simple as that that will
9:50
hold absolutely fine
9:52
and if like me you've got some raw end
9:54
sticking out there and a little bit too
9:55
long
9:58
you see i just keep getting rid of the
9:59
glue strings which you do get with hot
10:01
melt glue
10:03
just cut off the extra length of ribbon
10:05
that you don't want
10:06
and it'll make a nice tidy finish
10:09
and that's it well done you've got your
10:11
christmas bauble
10:12
to hang wherever you want to hang it
10:14
depending what size bauble you made
10:16
they look great on the tree or indeed
10:18
hanging in a window if you've made a
10:19
larger one
10:21
so good luck with your christmas bauble
