0:00
hi in this video i'm going to show you
0:02
how to make your own lavender sachets
0:05
really cute great gift idea just pop
0:08
them in a drawer put them over a
0:10
rail in a wardrobe great for freshening
0:12
clothes and keeping the moths away
0:14
so quick and simple but a great gift
0:17
so i'm christine of christie's crust.com
0:20
and this channel is dedicated to
0:23
so what are you going to need some
0:25
lavender if like me you grow lavender
0:27
then you're going to have your own that
0:29
you've dried but you can buy it
0:31
some embroidery thread just act as the
0:35
hanger on your your tea bag
0:40
this is a tumble dryer sheet an old used
0:43
or you can just use ordinary fabric
0:46
something just to make your bag and
0:49
here you're going to see some nice
0:51
labels that you can use they're free to
0:53
download and printable
0:55
and there's also a pattern template
0:57
that's also free to download
0:59
the links are below and on the screen at
1:01
the moment they're available freely from
1:05
so the first thing to do is to cut out
1:09
no need to allow seam allowances the
1:11
template takes all that into
1:14
just cut it out and then you're going to
1:17
or clip it to your fabric so i'm using
1:21
old tumble dryer sheet partly it's a
1:24
nice little recycling project
1:26
and partly because it gives that nice
1:27
tea bag effect like a real tea bag
1:30
i have made some in the past with some
1:32
nice craft cottons and they work
1:34
really well too so once you've pinned it
1:39
remove your template and there you've
1:42
piece of fabric so fold it in half and
1:45
you can see that teabag shape appearing
1:48
so pin along one side and also
1:52
the little slopey side and then do the
1:56
on the opposite side and we're going to
1:59
sew along those make some little seams
2:03
don't however sew along the top you're
2:05
going to leave that open
2:06
to allow you to turn your teabag the
2:10
so just going to sew down those sides
2:16
i recommend doing these on a sewing
2:18
machine because it makes them really
2:19
quick but if you don't have a machine
2:22
hand they're not massive it's not going
2:23
to take you very long
2:25
it's a little reverse at the beginning
2:26
to make sure your stitches don't come
2:29
i'll turn at the corner run it to the
2:33
little reverse and there you go that's
2:37
cut off your threads and take yourself
2:41
and do the other side
2:45
again a little rest at the end turn at
2:48
finish it off with a reverse and cut off
2:52
so now you've got your little tea bag i
2:54
recommend that you cut
2:56
any excess off at the corners and you
3:00
it's just so you don't have too much
3:01
bulk especially if you're using the
3:03
tumble dryer sheet because you'll be
3:06
through be careful not to snip any
3:10
just take your time at this point and
3:13
then it's time to turn your tea bag out
3:17
if you are using a tumble dryer sheet
3:20
delicate so do be careful when you're
3:23
i've sped the film up but i actually
3:25
took quite a bit of time doing it
3:28
you don't want to be pushing it and
3:29
forcing it equally well you don't want
3:31
to be getting anything sharp to force
3:33
your corners out i'm purely using my
3:36
feel how hard i'm doing it and making
3:40
i don't poke my finger through
3:43
and once you're happy with it that's
3:47
you need to fill it with your lavender
3:50
so it's up to you whether you use some
3:52
sort of funnel to get it in there or
3:54
you just persevere and keep pushing it
3:58
don't put too much in because you don't
4:00
want it to all push out and bulge
4:02
you want it to look like a tea bag and a
4:06
full so just keep checking you'll see i
4:09
until you're happy with the amount
4:13
i'm happy with that it just lies down
4:17
so the next thing to do is to get your
4:19
embroidery thread and cut a length
4:21
it's entirely up to you how long but i
4:23
suggest something about four or six
4:26
and tie a knot in one end the only
4:29
reason you're tying a knot
4:31
is so that when you sew it in in a
4:32
moment it'll not be able to pull through
4:35
so you'll see i just keep forming not
4:37
after not after not till i'm happy
4:40
so take your tea bag and fold those top
4:45
so that you can sew them together and
4:48
closing up your tea bag so
4:51
put the knot that you've just formed
4:55
with the yarn hanging outside the
4:58
and pin it in place just make sure you
5:01
get it in the center of the bag so that
5:02
it looks right when you've sewn it
5:05
and then it's back to the sewing machine
5:06
or a little bit of hand sewing
5:08
a bit of reverse run along
5:12
taking your pins out as you go making
5:13
sure that thread stays in place
5:15
little reverse at the other end and now
5:22
and it's got a thread on it to hang it
5:25
or to decorate it so now you're going to
5:28
go to your sheet of labels and you're
5:30
going to cut out two identical ones
5:31
you'll see there's a selection on there
5:33
but i've gone for a nice simple one
5:35
you're watching me knot in the other end
5:39
of your thread and then you're going to
5:42
glue that between the two labels
5:45
so turn one of your labels over and
5:49
any sort of multi-purpose glue will do
5:51
doesn't need to be particularly strong
5:54
and just apply a little to the back of
5:59
and then you're going to put the
6:02
in there you see i'm having trouble with
6:07
it's all or nothing isn't it so then
6:10
place the thread in so that the knot
6:12
will sit in the middle of that glue
6:15
and then you're going to glue the other
6:19
now you see i'm just spreading out that
6:21
glue because i've got quite a lot in
6:24
and i also want the edges to stick down
6:30
place that thread in again the knot will
6:34
through and glue that
6:37
on once you're happy with it just leave
6:42
and then that is your teabag lavender
6:48
so now it's up to you what you do with
6:50
it it looks lovely if you just wrap the
6:52
the string around place it like that
6:54
you've got a lovely gift
6:55
wrap that up anyone would be pleased to
6:58
um i said i would show you some that i'd
7:02
an ordinary craft cotton so there's one
7:06
so good luck making yours i hope you
7:09
and i hope the people you give them to
7:11
enjoy them so thank you for watching
7:13
please give me a thumbs up below and
