In this video I'm going to show you how to make your own origami seed packets. They're
0:04
really sweet, you can use them for gathering your own seed, splitting seed up, perhaps
0:08
even as gifts or wedding favours. As you can see it's got a pocket inside that keeps your
0:14
seeds nice and secure and then it fastens over the top to keep them doubly secure. Great
0:19
for keeping your seeds fresh because we all know they like to be kept in paper. At the
0:23
end I'll show you different sizes you can get from different sized squares of paper
0:28
So that's all you're going to need to make this, there's no tape, there's no glue, just
0:32
get yourself a square of paper. Now mine is 8 inches by 8 inches and that gives me a packet
0:38
2 and 3 quarter inches. So whatever size your square you're going to fold it loosely into
0:47
thirds. Now take your time to get this right and once you're exactly on thirds you're just
0:54
going to pinch that end. You're not going to fold all the way along the square, you're
0:58
just going to pinch that end and that's going to mark it into thirds. And then once you're
1:07
happy with that, open it up and fold where you've marked and make sure your fold is nice
1:16
and crisp. Now you can use a tool for this or you can simply use your fingernail like
1:21
I do. Then open it up and fold along the other pinch mark you made. And then when you
1:30
open it up you'll see that you've split it into thirds with those folds. So now take
1:37
one corner and fold it to the opposite corner, folding your square exactly in half forming
1:43
a triangle. Again, good crisp fold and make sure you're accurate and then open it up and
1:55
repeat the process with the other two corners. And good fold. And what we're doing here is
2:07
all the preliminary folds before we make the seed packet up. It'll just make it work really
2:15
well. So turn it 390 degrees and you will see where your lines cross and we're going to fold
2:22
the edge up to those marks. So what you're doing here is you're splitting your paper into thirds
2:32
the other way. So open that one up and then repeat for the other side. And now if you open
2:46
it up you can see that you've got all your preliminary marks and that you've got a square
2:51
in the middle that is the seed packet. So fold one side down and let's start to form that inner
2:57
packet. So to start with you're going to take that point there and fold it over to there. So
3:04
if you need to just get your fingers in and make sure you get a good crisp corner. Take it over, line it up and then form that diagonal fold inside
3:19
And then the paper that's sticking up you're just going to fold down flat
3:24
and you've got all the folds so it should go down nicely
3:29
And I hope you can see you've formed the first point of your packet
3:35
Then turn the whole thing through 90 degrees and repeat the process. So pick that front edge up, take it up to the top
3:47
and then form that nice diagonal fold. And again the paper that's sticking up put it down flat and form your second point
4:01
Turn through 90 degrees and repeat the whole process again. If you're enjoying this video

4:20
And as you can see when you form the third point it looks slightly different this time
4:28
So we won't be able to just repeat that process for the last point. So open that back up and you're going to get that inner bit of paper and we're going to fold that
4:39
back. So inner bit of paper is going to fold back so that that reaches right over there and
4:48
forms a triangle. So once you're happy that it's formed that triangle and it looks like mine
4:58
press your fold. Okay get your finger in there and then again flatten the top down but this time it will look
5:06
like that. And now you're going to do your crossover that you're used to where you take that edge there up to the top
5:23
It's a familiar move for you. And then press that down. Now you'll see that's formed a square
5:35
but we're going to push it out and form that final point
5:42
So you should now have four points and you've formed the basic seed packet where your seeds
5:47
will go. So you should be able to just open that up see inside and close it back up
5:55
So now we just need to lock your seed packet closed. So take one of your points fold it in
6:05
and then you're going to fold the next one in. Now if you go the wrong way around it'll simply
6:09
not lock at the end and just undo them and then go back and do it again. And when you come to
6:15
this point you want to secure that final one. So lift that first one slightly so you've got a gap
6:23
and you're going to put that point down there. And that should lock in place and hold whatever's
6:28
inside secure. And now you can use it for seeds or letters or whatever you want to put in there
6:37
So you simply open it up put your seeds in and then fasten it all up again. Now I said I'd tell
6:45
you at the end about the different sizes I've made and what size you end up with. So this one was
6:49
eight inches giving a two and three quarter inch seed packet. A six inch square gives a two inch
6:56
seed packet and a 12 inch square gives a four inch seed packet. Now my 12 inch one I used
7:03
scrapbooking paper which was really thick and gave me a really strong packet but it really doesn't
7:08
matter. Some of these were done with ordinary copier paper and as you can see I've written on
7:12
the back of some. So I hope you've enjoyed this video and making your seed packets. Please
