0:01
hi today i'm going to show you how to
0:02
make continuous yarn from a piece of
0:05
this could be a piece of fabric you've
0:06
got lying around a piece of fabric
0:08
you've bought or an old sheet from a bed
0:11
so you can use this fabric yarn for all
0:14
sorts of crafting projects you can use
0:17
knitting locker hooking anything you
0:20
bags mats rugs lots of great crafting
0:25
so i'm christine from christiescrust.com
0:28
and this channel is all about crafting
0:31
so let's get started you're going to
0:34
and fold it in half so you fold it in
0:37
half so your two side edges
0:38
are together okay perfectly lined up
0:42
and then the rest of the fabric is
0:43
probably quite bulky so you can fold it
0:46
but make sure that that new fold does
0:50
those two edges need to be together and
0:53
separate to that fold
0:55
we're going to cut through that fold but
0:57
we're not going to cut through the edges
0:59
so how are you going to do this well you
1:01
can do it with a rotary cutter
1:03
and a ruler or if you don't have that or
1:08
you can use scissors so in this video
1:11
i'm going to use scissors
1:13
now you decide on how wide you'll want
1:17
now i'm going to suggest half an inch is
1:21
i'm going to make mine really wide
1:22
because i've got a certain bag
1:24
project in mind for it that i think
1:27
so i'm going to make mine three squares
1:30
wide you can see i've got the gingham
1:32
so it's very easy for me what you do is
1:36
half an inch from the top of your fabric
1:40
case three squares and cut along from
1:45
all the way across but do not cut
1:47
through those two edges you left
1:49
together right at the side so as you can
1:53
i've cut through the folded bit but i've
1:57
sides of the fabric now i'm just
2:00
readjusting that fold because i didn't
2:02
so near those edges you'll find that if
2:05
you keep that fold a little bit further
2:08
it's easier to stop just precisely where
2:12
so you cut all the way across but not
2:15
so where do you stop it's entirely up to
2:18
um you might find that you stop half an
2:21
inch from the end and it feels a little
2:24
too too short or too wide but at
2:27
experiment if you're doing them half an
2:30
stopping half an inch from the edge
2:32
should be a reasonable place to stop
2:35
so as you can see i'm just carrying on
2:37
down the fabric just making sure they're
2:38
all about the same width
2:40
don't worry about that it doesn't have
2:41
to be exactly precise
2:44
but about the same width and then you
2:47
just keep cutting down your fabric
2:50
until you've used as much of it as you
2:51
want to to get the length of yarn you
2:55
just remember as i was pointing to there
2:59
through your edges so you're still going
3:03
that will be very scrappy but one giant
3:05
piece of fabric still
3:08
don't worry i'm not going to show you
3:09
the entire piece of fabric i've got but
3:11
i want to do a few lengths so you can
3:13
get the idea of how to proceed
3:16
so once you've cut as much of your
3:20
you need to start thinking about the
3:24
okay so you can see i've got all these
3:31
first thing to do is just move those
3:33
back out the way so that you can see
3:36
okay you don't have to but it just makes
3:38
it easier they're not going to get
3:39
caught up in any of the uh
3:41
the snipping we're about to do so
3:44
starting from your top edge where you
3:48
we're just going to deal with the top
3:49
piece of fabric not the bottom one leave
3:53
you're going to go one strip in and cut
3:56
through the end it feels a little bit
3:58
cutting through the ends but you're fine
4:01
now you're going to count
4:02
two strips and cut through again
4:06
count another two strips you must always
4:11
and cut again two strips
4:14
and cut again and just keep going all
4:16
the way down as far as you've gone on
4:21
once you're happy peel those back out
4:24
the way and we're now going to deal with
4:25
the bottom piece of fabric
4:27
this time from the top you need to count
4:31
or you'll just cut a little strip off
4:33
the top of your fabric so count
4:35
two strips and then cut
4:40
two strips and then cut
4:44
two strips and then cut
4:48
and just keep going doing that always
4:53
and that's it you will have a continuous
4:56
length of fabric if you've done it right
4:59
if you're nervous about this how about
5:00
just doing the top two or three strips
5:02
and making sure it's worked
5:05
once you've got them all cut off you go
5:08
roll it all up into a ball so that it's
5:12
ready for whatever craft project you've
5:15
now at this point when you start rolling
5:18
you might realize you should have
5:20
snipped a bit nearer the edges
5:22
in which case you can always just add
5:24
another little snippet just extend those
5:28
as you can see you get a lot of yarn
5:31
out of your fabric and you can really
5:34
create whatever you want with it
5:36
i recommend balling it all up like this
5:38
just so it doesn't get in a mess
5:40
if you find when you're turning it into
5:42
a ball it's getting all twisted up
5:44
just adjust the way you're making the
5:46
ball you'll see i changed to just
5:48
rolling it in my fingers so that it
5:51
and that's it you'll have a nice ball of
5:53
fabric yarn that you can use for your
5:58
i can now carry on down mine if i want
6:01
and just keep going with what i was
6:02
doing and you can do the same so you
6:05
don't have to commit to the whole sheet
6:06
of fabric straight away
6:08
so thank you for watching and good luck
6:10
