In this video I'm going to show you how to make this super cute advent calendar
0:04
You can make it at home from a few envelopes and bits and pieces you've got
0:08
Really sweet, really easy. I'm Christine of christiescrafts.com and this channel is dedicated to crafting on a budget

So what are you going to need? Well first of all, 24 envelopes
0:19
You can use whatever size envelopes you like but I've used these small envelopes that are
0:23
designed for the old style wage packets. So as long as you've got 24 you're sorted
0:29
You're going to need something to hang them on, now you might use a ribbon like this or
0:33
as I decided ultimately some garden twine. You're then going to need some pegs so that you can peg up each of your envelopes
0:41
These are little tiny plastic pegs that are from a craft shop but you could use the ones
0:45
you've got to peg on your washing line if you like. You're going to need some way of marking them all with a number
0:53
Now you could just write that on in pen but I chose these cute little stick on numbers
0:59
And then it's just things to decorate your envelope. Now you could just colour them all in but my top tip is use anything you've got and
1:06
old Christmas cards are brilliant. Just cut little bits out from them and stick them to your envelopes and they'll be really festive
1:15
So take each envelope and fold over the top. Now just make sure it's going to work nicely on whatever you want to hang them on and then
1:25
fold them all over. Now that's just to make sure you don't stick anything on there and make it difficult later
1:33
Check where you want to hang your peg and again that's to make sure you don't put any
1:37
decorations there that are going to get in the way. And then it's a case of making sure you number each envelope
1:45
I've chosen to put all mine in the top left corner but you could do whatever you like
1:50
and as I say if you're writing them on that might be all you put on your envelope is a giant number
1:55
So then carry on and you're going to do the same with all 24 envelopes
2:02
So it's entirely up to you how you're doing it but I do recommend that you do your numbering
2:06
on all 24 before you do any more decoration because then once you've got them all you
2:13
could lay them all out and you can decorate them en masse and it gives you a chance to
2:18
make sure they all fit together. It depends what you're looking for. I've gone for quite a random selection and I'm just sticking them on here, there and everywhere
2:26
If you want a coordinated effect this is your chance to coordinate them
2:31
So place all your items on and then you've got time to move them all around before you
2:37
start applying any sort of glue and making them permanent. So you can see mine all appear in there, a little bit of swapping
2:45
And then once you're happy simply glue all your decorations in place so that you've got
2:51
24 envelopes all ready. Now it comes time to think if you're putting anything in them
2:58
Well an envelope with nothing in is a bit of a disappointment. I've opted purely for chocolate, some little Christmas Santas and snowmen and some chocolate coins
3:09
And then all you need to do is pop your gift in and then it's up to you whether you just
3:14
fold the top over so you can reuse your envelopes or seal it
3:18
I think if you have little children it's quite exciting to seal them but seeing as we're
3:22
all quite grown up in our house I've decided just to fold them over
3:26
Obviously you could put any little gifts that fit in your envelopes, perhaps little bits
3:30
of Lego or anything else that your children like. It's entirely up to you
3:35
You could put beads in for a little girl to build up a bracelet over the week
3:40
It's entirely up to you. So fill all your envelopes and then all you've got to do is hang them
3:46
Now I've hung my string from two points so I get that nice curve
3:51
You could just hang it from one point and do it vertically so that they're each below
3:55
the other. And then all you need to do is peg your envelopes on your string
4:01
Now I've pegged mine all in number order which you might find a little bit boring
4:06
So you could mix them up so that your children have to work out which one's next and find
4:10
them on the string. But if you just want that order like me just hang them all on until you've got the whole string
4:19
And that's it. You've got your advent calendar. If you don't like where you've fastened it on at the ends you could decorate those and
4:25
just make it all look pretty. And that really is all there is to it
4:30
So I hope you've enjoyed watching this and enjoy making your own advent calendar
